Breaking News – according to the NUJ official website, Michelle Stanistreet – London Central branch member and chapel rep at the Express – has been elected as our new Deputy General Secretary.

The NUJ website adds”The ballot result became known today (4 July), although Michelle cannot be confirmed in post until the union’s National Executive Committee formally endorses the election result on 24 July.

The Deputy General Secretary vacancy arose following the retirement of John Fray, who had worked for the union for 18 years.

Michelle Stanistreet is currently a chapel rep at Express Newspapers where she has been working since 1999. She holds the National Newspapers and Agencies seat on the NUJ NEC and was NUJ President for the period 2007-2008.”

More later – and by the way do not forget the next branch meeting of the London Central branch takes place next Tuesday 9th July at the NUJ headquarters, starting at 7.00pm
