DEPUTY GS HUSTINGS MEETING 19 May 2008

This June, NUJ members will be voting by postal ballot to elect a new Deputy General Secretary. The NEC has confirmed the following candidates:

Philip Hunt

Michelle Stanistreet

John Toner

Chris Youett

The Electoral Reform Services has been appointed the official scrutineer for the ballot and the count will be conducted by the single transferable voting system. Sarah Veale, the TUC Senior Employment Rights Officer will act as the Electoral Presiding Officer in the event of any complaint during the ballot.

The ballot timetable is as follows:

Ballot papers sent out on 27 May 2008

Closing date for receipt of ballot papers: Noon on 4 July.

Members entitled to vote in this election will be in accordance with Rules 2 and 10 – full members who are not more than three calendar months or more in arrears of subscriptions on 15 May 2008.

London Central has joined with other London based branches of the NUJ to organise a hustings meeting, open to all members to attend and ask questions of the candidates. This is your chance to find out more about those who are seeking your vote.

The Date: Thursday 29 May

The Time: 7.00pm to 9.00pm

The Place: Guardian Lecture Theatre (situated in The Newsroom Archive and Visitor Centre) 60 Farringdon Rd. London EC1R 3GA.
