The planned strike at Express Newspapers in London and Preston on Friday has been suspended to allow room for further discussions with management.

The union is looking to re-open dialogue with the management, which has been criticised for its failure to engage with the real issues at the heart of the disagreement.

A further announcement is expected on Monday, which is likely to include details of further industrial action if no progress is made.

NUJ members in London and Preston staged a 24-hour walk-out last Friday as part of a dispute over a below inflation pay offer that management has tried to force on journalists without any meaningful consultation with the union.

A meeting of union members yesterday condemned the way that management has been dealing with the dispute, calling for the company to begin taking their concerns seriously.
